Our Sourcing Standard

The quality of what we make begins long before construction. It begins with sourcing, and sourcing is where our standards are set first.

Every material that enters the Kora Strand range has been selected against specific criteria before it reaches us. Where it comes from, how it has been handled, who has been involved in that process, and whether the conditions at every stage meet the standard we require. These are not secondary considerations. They are the foundation.

Our Supply Chain

We work with a focused group of specialist partners, chosen for their expertise, their consistency, and their commitment to practices we can stand behind.

We do not work with a broad network of suppliers. We work with the right ones. Long-term collaboration allows for close oversight, shared expectations, and the kind of continual refinement that a transactional supply relationship does not permit. When we trust a partner, it is because that trust has been built over time and tested in practice.

Where Our Hair Comes From

Our hair is primarily sourced and processed through established facilities in China, a globally recognised centre for advanced hair sorting, preparation, and finishing. These facilities have the technical expertise to handle premium hair at scale while preserving the qualities that matter most: cuticle alignment, texture integrity, natural movement, and finish.

For specialised textures and curl patterns, including Burmese hair and other region-specific characteristics, sourcing begins in the areas naturally associated with those qualities. Hair is then prepared and finished in controlled environments that meet our standards before it enters the range.

This approach is deliberate. Authentic texture cannot be manufactured. It comes from sourcing that respects the natural origin of the material and handles it accordingly at every stage that follows.

Ethical Standards

We require that all hair within our supply chain is obtained through voluntary, compensated channels. Sourcing partners must operate in compliance with local labour laws and without coercive or exploitative practices at any point in the process.

These are not aspirational commitments. They are conditions of working with us.

Processing and Quality Control

Each batch of hair undergoes a preparation process designed to preserve its natural character while ensuring it meets our performance expectations.

This includes gentle cleansing and conditioning, cuticle alignment and texture preservation, controlled colouring and finishing where applicable, and multiple quality checks before approval at each stage. Hair that does not meet the standard at any point in this process does not move forward. There is no revised threshold for materials that fall short. They are not used.

On Natural Variation

Hair is a natural material. Subtle variation in texture, tone, and movement is inherent to it, and in our view, it is part of what makes the material worth working with.

Within the parameters of our sourcing standards, this variation is not a flaw. It is evidence of considered selection and careful handling. Every piece carries the character of where it came from and the integrity of how it was treated on the way to becoming part of something finished.

Transparency

We share information about our sourcing because our customers are entitled to understand what they are buying and where it comes from. Not as reassurance, but as a matter of respect.

As Kora Strand grows, our sourcing practices will continue to evolve.

The criteria will not.
